Gargoyle in Yorkshire

England was shock by a series of gargoyle shaped stone appeared in front of their house and businesses.

A string of gargoyles shaped stone turn up outside housed at northern county of yorkshire. The gargoyles mystery was solved when a local artist was named after them.

Billy johnson, the local artist, made them using stones and fossils he founded on the beach. Now the local artist has his own website for those who want to buy his craftsworks.

He carved a riddle at the back of the gargoyles that spells, "Twinkle twinkle like a star blaze less from afar?"

Twelve of the heads had been left in the villages of Goathland and Kilburn in north Yorkshire, four in Arthington in west Yorkshire, and three in Braithwell, south Yorkshire.

George griffits was one of the receiver and he tried to contact Billy through his website but get no reply from Billy only an automatic reply. The email he received said that Billy was out of the country for a few week without any phones, internet and television access.

A Fleet of Monsters Appeared On Kanas River

Elusive mystical creatures emerged again in Kanas Lake of China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. According to the administration of the Kanas scenic spot, on July 5th at 8:20pm, huge ripples were seen on the surface of the lake by a few tourists carrying their portable video cameras. The 8-minute video recording captured the entire event. From the video there can been seen a group of unidentified creatures, about 15 in number. They gather together and separate, looking like a fleet, and create a magnificent scene. The parts of creatures seen above the surface of the water are several times larger than the biggest sightseeing boat in the area. Statistics showed that Kanas Lake runs 25 kilometers north to south, is about 2.5 kilometers wide, and is 188 meters deep in its deepest area. Legends from thousands of years ago spoke about "monsters" that often stealthily dragged cattle into the water. The most recent siting in June 2006, recorded by three tourists from Beijing, triggered more discussion and speculation. Experts say the "monsters" are probably unidentified aquatic animals. The reported siting in July is the longest and the first fully recorded one.

The one and half year old chihuahua named conan as on the image above try to follow his master praying position by uniting its hand's palm in front of its face and maintain it.

His master said that it only took a few days for him to learn the motion. Tourists flock into the temple after these news was spread across the nation.

Now, his master tried to let the dog learn how to meditate but, of course not to put his leg crossing which is impossible, only sitting still while his master meditate.

Facebook facial recognition system criticised

Facebook is embroiled in another privacy controversy after it quietly switched on technology that automatically identifies people in photos. 

 

The “Tag Suggestions” system uses facial recognition software to identify individals as photos are uploaded, and then encourages their friends to tag them so that others can easily access the images.

Facebook originally began testing Tag Suggestions in the US only, in December, but has now extended it to “most” of the dominant social network’s 600 million users worldwide without notice.

“Yet again, it feels like Facebook is eroding the online privacy of its users by stealth,” said Graham Cluley, of the British internet security firm Sophos.

“Many people feel distinctly uncomfortable about a site like Facebook learning what they look like, and using that information without their permission.”

Marc Rotenberg, executive director of the Electronic Privacy Information Center in Washington DC, criticised the way Facebook had opted users into its facial recognition system by default.

“I'm not sure that's the setting that people would want to choose. A better option would be to let people opt in,” he said.
Facebook has frequently pushed its users to reveal more online by implementing new features by default. Facebook Places, a location-based service launched last year, broadcasts some information about users unless they explicitly tell it not to, for example.
Following the criticism of Tag Suggestions, Facebook said “we should have been more clear with people during the roll-out process when this became available to them”.
It added that the facial recognition technology would only be applied to newly-uploaded photos.
Users can disable the feature by turning off the “suggest photos of me to friends” option on their Privacy Settings page.
Facebook has previously faced criticism for the complexity of it its privacy settings and following yet another privacy controversy in May last year Mark Zuckerberg, its CEO, pledged to make them simpler.

HP TouchPad to cost same as iPad

HP has announced that the TouchPad tablet will cost £399, the same as the Apple iPad, and be available from mid-July 

 

The TouchPad, HP’s tablet computer, will be available in mid-July and cost the same as the rival Apple iPad, the company has announced.

The tablet, which will use the webOS operating system acquired by HP when it bought Palm, will be available in the United States, France and Germany on 1 July, and later this year in Ireland, Italy, Spain as well as in Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Singapore.

Models with 16 GB or 32 GB of internal storage will retail for £399 and £479 respectively, and preorders will begin 19 June.

Last month, HP claimed it will emulate its PC market success in the tablet world when it launches the Touchpad.

The company’s European boss, Eric Cador, said at a press conference in Cannes that “In the PC world, with fewer ways of differentiating HP’s products from our competitors, we became number one; in the tablet world we’re going to become better than number one. We call it number one plus.” Apple’s iPad is currently the best-selling tablet around the world.
Flagship UK apps partners will be music service Last.fm, Sky and the Guardian, the company said. At launch, however, one HP spokesman said there would be “thousands” more.

 

Apple's iTunes in iCloud 'won't launch in the UK this year'

Apple’s cloud music service will not launch in the UK until 2012, according to record label executives and music analysts.

 

Earlier this week Steve Jobs, Apple’s chief executive, returned from sick leave to announce the company’s new cloud storage service, iCloud.

However, the music storage part of the iCloud, due to launch in the US around September time, will not be coming to the UK until at least quarter one of 2012.

A spokesman for the Performing Right Society (PRS), which ensures that composers, songwriters and music publishers are paid for their work, told The Telegraph, that negotiations with Apple about ensuring rights in the UK had started but were at a “very early stage”.

“The licensing team at the PRS have started talks with Apple, but are a long way off from any deals being signed…It is very much the early stages of the negotiations and is similar to the launch of iTunes – which began in the US and took a while to roll out to other countries,” they said.

A music executive at one of the major record labels, who wished to remain unnamed, said: “Tentative talks have begun between the major labels and Apple in the UK. However, all talks are at the really early stages and no one expects to see the cloud music service live on this side of the pond until 2012.”

Apple declined to comment, as did Warner Music. Universal, EMI and Sony were all unavailable. The BPI, which represents the interests of the record industry, also refused to comment on “commercial negotiations about specific services prior to launch”.
Mark Mulligan, vice president and research director at Forrester Research, said: “Apple’s cloud music service will not launch in the UK until at least quarter one of 2012. These types of negotiations take a long time… For one thing the UK arms of all the major record labels are biding their time and waiting to see how the service affects download sales in the US before they sign up to anything.”
A ‘cloud’ music storage service allows customers to store their music on an online server which they can then access from any computer or mobile device. In short, it means an end to having to carry your music around with you on a mobile phone or MP3 player.
Jobs announced earlier in the week that the free part of the music storage service syncs music bought from iTunes but for an annual subscription, Apple will also scan the music that you haven't bought from iTunes, match it and add it to your iCloud service if it is in their library.
Apple is understood to have only recently signed deals with the all the major labels in the US, and is yet to sign up all of the independents.
Both Google and Amazon have launched similar services in the US in the last few weeks. However, neither company has done licensing deals with the labels, arguing that since the music being uploaded to cloud servers is music the users already own, no licenses are required.

Geese given police escort on US highway

A Canada goose and her goslings are escorted from a busy highway in Seattle by no less than three police cars. 

Washington state troopers helped the gaggle to safety after motorists alerted the authorities to their presence on the busy road during the Wednesday morning rush hour.

Officers closed two lanes of traffic whilst they guided the Canadian geese to an appropriate highway exit.

The operation "to get the little guys cleared" tooks around 20 minutes, according to patrol spokeswoman Julie Startup.

In a campaign to highlight the benefits of a vegetarian diet, actress Gao Yuanyuan is wrapped in a gown of lettuce in China.

 

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) draped the young actress in the elegant salad ensemble in order to encourage Chinese consumers to choose a meat-free diet.

China's meat consumption has quadrupled over the last four decades as living standards have risen, and Jason Baker, vice-president of Peta Asia, said the soaring demand for meat was having negative consequences.

"The per capita consumption in China is still lower compared to the Western world, but it's changing – it's getting worse. The consumption is going up, and related to that so are diseases related to meat consumption – cancer, heart disease.

"Additionally, the industry is changing. You now have industrialised factory farms like you never had in China before," Baker said.

Lady GaGa astounded fans and TV audiences Friday when she announced that she has had one of her legs amputated below the knee purely for fashion purposes. Crazy, huh? Who in the world would get his or her legs amputated just to be “different”? Only Lady GaGa.
